This is a rare book, with binding of half stippled-leather with raised boards and gilt title, and marbled endpapers. Cover in good condition though a little rubbed. 305 x 250 x 20mm. Fairly clean throughout except for soiling of page extremities. 18 pages of text. Pages 297 x 235mm (11 3/4 x 9 1/2 inches)

Complete with 6 Villa Residences illustrated with 40 steel-engraved plates of Villas, Plans, Elevations, Perspective View, and Details (15 elevations, 12 plans, 13 details of stone, timber and plasterwork) engraved by W.H. McFarlane after drawings by Starforth.

5 examples of Starforth's classical Gothic design. His architecture is sometimes described as "Scots baronial style with a French flavour"! John Starforth (1822-1898) was apprenticed to Edinburgh architect, David Bryce, and set up his own successful architectural practice in the 1850s.
