Fashion at Polo. Gazette du Bon Ton, Au Polo. Pochoir by Taquoy

by Taquoy, Maurice

Gazette du Bon Ton fashion At the Polo Match. Elegant lady with parasol and afternoon dress designed by Charles Worth.

Charming original 1913 fashion pochoir by Maurice Taquoy for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style). The finest fashion illustrators of the day portrayed the latest fashions by prominent French designers. Gazette du Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), and distributed by Condé Nast.

The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and this French word for stencil has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with separate stencils cut for the hand-application of gouache and watercolour.
