Lady Golfer with Golf Clubs. Costumes Parisiens Taquoy pochoir c1913

by Taquoy, Maurice

Petit loden Tailleur en laine d'Ecosse. Grosses bottines lacees.

Charming small 1913 pochoir fashion study by Maurice Taquoy (1878-1952) for Journal des Dames et des Modes, Costumes Parisiens, a fashion periodical produced by couturier Paul Poiret and published by Tom Antongini from 1912 to 1914. Similar to Gazette du Bon Ton, but even more scarce with a small circulation and short publication period, Journal des Dames et des Modes, Costumes Parisiens (Journal of Ladies and Fashion, Parisian Dress) presented a total of only 186 different pochoir fashion plates.

Specialist fashion artists used an intricate, labour-intensive style of illustration for small hand-coloured pochoir (stencils) of the latest fashion designs. A separate stencil was cut for each application of skilfully applied gouache and watercolour.

Page size is 220 x 145mm. Image to border measures 155 x 90mm.
