Gazette du Bon Ton, Le Prologue ou La Comédie au Chateau (The Prologue or The Comedy at the Chateau)

Delightful original pochoir 1920's fashion plate by Pierre Brissaud (1885-1964) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), the exclusive publication that introduced the latest superior styles from the Paris couturiers.

Each pochoir (French for stencil) was hand-coloured by gouache and watercolour, with a separate stencil cut for each application of colour. With the fine detail and building up of colour, there were as many as 30 stencils cut for each pochoir. Brissaud was one of four regular fashion illustration contributors for Gazette du Bon Ton. He interpreted each new style with a delightful fashion narrative of the period.
