Superb original lithograph by Delaporte after the drawing by Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782-1871), for the comprehensive anatomy textbook Traité complet de l’homme de l’anatomie (Complete Treatise of the Anatomy of Man) published in Paris between 1831 and 1854 by French anatomist Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (Orleans 1797-1849 Paris). Bourgery published the first volume in 1831. He completed his treatise, but publication was not completed until 5 years after his death. Bourgery’s role model and mentor was anatomist-paleontologist Georges Cuvier.

This image is on rice paper laid down on a thick hand made paper. Owing to scanner size limitations, we can only show the lithographed portion of the image. Full page size is 42 x 32cm (16.5 x 12.5 inches).
