Fine original line engraved antique print by eminent portrait engraver, Daniel John Pound (1820-1894), from a photograph by John Jabez Edwin Mayall. With stipple engraving used for sensitive accentuation of facial lines and expression, this engraving was from a series of large portraits of important personages for the "Supplement to The Illustrated News of the World", published c.1860 by The London Joint Stock Newspaper Company _ Limited (office 199 Strand, London.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859), was the son of French engineer, French revolution escapee, Mark Isambard Brunel, and his English wife, Sophia Kingdom. Brunel was made a fellow of the Royal Society in 1830. From 1833, Brunel was responsible for the construction of the Great Western Railway between London and Bristol - as well as many others. When Prince Albert suggested to Queen Victoria that Brunel be knighted for his services to the country, Brunel declined the honour, saying that it was enough reward to serve his country.

In fine condition except for slight soiling towards page extremities. Page approximately 400 x 265mm (15 5/8 x 10 1/2 inches).
