Edward Coke fought for Common Law over Monarchy.

Original copperplate engraved portrait for Blackstone's Laws of England. An important 18th century English judge in red court regalia. This fine engraving is grandly embellished by decorative borders and vignette with coat of arms below, engraved by T.Trotter after the painting by Cornelius Jansen, in the Inner Temple in London. Published in London by T. Cadell circa 1793 for William Blackstone’s “Commentaries of the Laws of England, the improvement of which have distinguished the reign of Her Majesty’s Most Royal Consort”.

This is a fine 18th century engraving with later hand-colour. Page size is 21 x 13cm (8.1/4 x 5.1/8 inches)
