by John Tallis & Company

Fine original steel engraving by G. Greatbach from the drawing by R. Hind, published in London circa 1856 by the London Printing & Publishing Company. Previously, Tallis & Co. who were renowned for further embellishing their fine engravings by the addition of exquisitely engraved borders often with the addition of vignettes of subjects that were related to the main scene.

These battle scenes were published in black and white but it has always been traditional to add fine colour, and some of the companies who were established for this purpose over a hundred years ago, are still employed as colourists today. It is therefore unknown when this colour was added, but it has been beautifully done.

This image is paler than actual engraving. Page size is 18 x 27cm (7 x 10.5 inches)
