Portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte, Massena, Ney, Murat, Kleber c1853.

by John Tallis & Company

Napoleon and Generals Massena, Ney, Murat, Kleber antique print.

Finely engraved head studies of Napoleon, surrounded by his most important generals, with the imperial eagle radiating at centre top above a laurel wreath suspended above Napoleon Bonaparte's head. The portrait studies are linked by distinctively engraved decorative architectural embellishment by John Tallis and Company of London and New York.

This engraving depicts Napoleon Bonaparte with his military leaders. André Masséna was named Commander-in-chief of the Army of Italy when Napoleon became First Consul of France in 1804; Napoleon's favourite and most trusted marshal, Michel Ney fought alongside Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and again supported him through the Battle of Waterloo after Napoleon escaped from Elba in 1814; leader of the French Eastern Expedition, and conqueror of Egypt, General Jean Baptiste Kléber; and Marshal of the Empire, Admiral of France and King of the Two Sicilies, Joachim Murat.

This fine engraving is in its original state, with strong intaglio impression. Page size is 273 x 185mm (10 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches).
