Full page with two hand-coloured wood engravings and the centre small uncoloured engraving, for The Illustrated London News, published on May 6, 1854, with interesting descriptive text between the engraved scenes, and on the following (reverse) page.
The Illustrated London News was the first graphic newspaper. It was a popular publication, with illustrated news of events and discoveries from around the world. The engraved illustrations were avidly collected and coloured for further enjoyment.
