A companion to the preceding engraving, this is a well defined and colourful image of military, engraved by W. Thomas from the drawing by George Thomas for The Illustrated London News published on March 18, 1854, with later hand-colour.

The Illustrated London News was the world's first graphic newspaper. Published weekly from 1842, its engraved images of events and discoveries from around the world ensured its popularity. Since the time of publication, engravings from this publication have always been collected and hand-tinted with watercolour for framing.

The engraving to its border measures 35 x 24cm (13.75 x 9.5 inches). Page size is 41 x 29 cm (16 x 11 inches).
