Naval commander and jousting courtier of Queen Elizabeth I, Sir George Clifford, 3rd Earl of Cumberland, 13th Baron de Clifford, and 13th Lord of Skipton (1558-1605), thrived on challenge and adventure, and gained some notoriety as a buccaneer and gambler.
Original finely steel-engraved portrait, engraved by W.T. Fry from the original in the Bodleian Gallery, Oxford. With elaborate finely-engraved decorative border this fine portrait was published c1854 by the London Printing and Publishing Company.
Page size: 275 x 185mm (10.75 x 7.25 inches). With fine later hand-colour, image size is 13 x 10cm (5 1/8 x 4 inches).
