Antique engraving of Commander of the Light Brigade in the Battle of Balaklava on October 25th 1854, Lieutenant James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, KCB (1797-1868).

An original steel engraving with suitable elaborate finely engraved border of military action and accoutrement. Published circa 1856 by The London Printing & Publishing Company, a partnership set up by John Tallis and Ephraim Tipton Brain in 1853. This is one of  series of portrait engravings of famous 19th century military personnel.

This fine engraving is in original published state (uncoloured), in relatively good condition for its age - except for a tiny printing blemish spot in the background, a rust spot towards the lower right edge, and slight soiling of the paper extremity at the lower right corner.
