Carro o Biga di Metallo Antico Etrusco usato ne Giuchi Circensi (Carriage or Etruscan Antique Metal Chariot Used in Circus Games)
Fine 18th century Italian etching, drawn and incised by Francesco Piranesi (1750-1810) for Vasi Candelabri Cippi y Sarcofagi Tripodi Lucerne ed Ornamenti Antichi published in Rome between 1773 and 1778. While both sons of Giovanni Battista Piranesi were trained by and worked with their father, only Francisco showed similar skill to his father.
This is a superb etching, with a cartouche of chariot side view and Caesari Augusto - Caesar Augustus, first Roman emperor.
