Original engraving from Oceanie (Oceania) section of Die Inseln des grossen oceans im Natur und Volkerleben (Nature & the Life of Peoples in the Pacific Islands) by Georg Hartwig (1813-1880). Published in Berlin circa 1861 by C.W. Kriedel. (This interesting work was republished in Weisbaden in 1871 by M. Bischkopff).

This page has early watercolouring, and slight soiling of page, but is a lovely early view nevertheless, with natives carrying bows and arrows, in their outrigger canoe, with masted sailing ships in the background of the scene.

Approximate size of page is 205 x 130mm (8 x 5 inches). To border line measures 160 x 100mm (6.25 x 4 inches).
