The Menai Bridge, Bangor, Wales. Bartlett view, c1840

The Menai Bridge, Bangor, Wales. Bartlett view, c1840

by Bartlett, William

Beautiful original antique print of Menai Suspension Bridge at Bangor, over the Menai Strait in Wales. An idyllic scene with people in the foreground, and yachts, a row boat, and sailing ships on the water.

Original very fine steel engraving by J. Rogers from a drawing by topographical illustrator, William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) for The Ports, Harbours, Watering-Places and Coast Scenery of Great Britain. By William Finden (1787-1852) and Edward Finden (1791-1857). Published in London by George Virtue, 26, Ivy Lane, circa 1840-1845, with engravings from illustrations of views taken on the spot by W.H. Bartlett.

It is a very peaceful scene, very finely engraved, and beautifully hand-coloured. This engraved page is rather age-discoloured, with slight soiling, and a foxing spot above the title. The price has been adjusted accordingly. Page size is 210 x 275mm (8.25 x 10.75 inches). Engraved image is approximately 120 x 185mm (4.75 x 7.25 inches).
