The first edition (1841) of this very British publication, had a larger print run. This is the rare second year of publication for the famous series of "Punch, or the London Charivari" (as it was initially called). Bradbury and Evans took over printing of the publication in 1842, when it did not initially make ends meet - having been set up with capital of 25 pounds. Full of witty and irreverant comments on life and the times, Punch was to become such a successful and popular social commentary and national institution, that it was published continuously until 2002. Well illustrated throughout with black and white engravings, many of full page size, from sketches by eminent cartoonists. This is a wonderful overview of life around the world in 1842.
