Original engraving for "Oceanie" within"Die Inseln des grossen oceans im Natur und Volkerleben" (Nature & the Life of Peoples in the Pacific Islands) by Georg Hartwig (1813-1880). Published in Berlin circa 1861 by C.W. Kriedel. (There was a later edition published in Weisbaden in 1871 by M. Bischkopff).

This page has early watercolouring, and slight age-soiling of page, but it is a lovely early view nevertheless, with native armour and embellishments of the period.

Approximate size of page is 130 x 205mm (5 x 8 inches). To border line measures 100 x 160mm (4 x 6.25 inches).
