by Cook, Captain James

Maori War Canoe antique print from Cook's Voyages. "Representation of a War Canoe of New Zealand, with a View of Gable End Foreland."

Wonderful original copperplate engraving by Prattent after the drawing by the Admiralty-appointed artist John Webber (1751-1793) who was responsible for most of the scenes of indigenous people, artifacts and views pulbished in Hawkesworth’s Complete History of Captain Cook's First, Second and Third Voyages published in London circa 1780 by Alexander Hogg.

Page measures 235 x 380mm (9.1/4 x 15 inches). The lower corners are missing, and the left and upper sides are close-cropped as published, with slight damage to the extremities of the page. The fine early colour is evident by the oxidation through to the back of the paper.
