Original engraved illustrations of the Conference of Lieutenant-Governor Wynyard and native chiefs, in Coromandel Harbour, and Discovery of Gold near the Source of the Kapanga Stream, about forty miles from Auckland.

Descriptive text (completed on reverse) on the New Zealand gold rush events at the time of publication in "The Illustrated London News" on December 3, 1853 (with later hand-colouring, which adds to the decorative appeal of these images).

"The Illustrated London News" was an illustrated periodical newspaper that circulated newsworthy items from around the world. Page size is 39 x 27cm (approximately 15.25 x 10.5 inches).
