Antique Print of Railway Viaduct on Melbourne-Sandhurst railway line at Tarradale entrance to Bendigo goldfields, c1864. A steam train is shown crossing this grand railway bridge.

Original engraving for The Illustrated London News published in London on August 13, 1864 (later hand-tinting with watercolour). There is an interesting text, photocopied, on the reverse of this engraving. The Illustrated London News periodical was the world's first graphic newspaper. Illustrated news periodicals were more viable financially. The engravings were , selling hundreds of thousands of copies each edition (in particular with news of any wars around the world). From the time of production, the engraved illustrations were the main attraction. They were avidly collected, and coloured for further enjoyment (as with this engraving). 

This engraving has been mounted between 'antique white' archival board and cellophaned for protection. 

Size of engraving window is 16 x 24 cm (6.25 x 9.5 inches). Full page size was 40 x 27cm (15.75 x 10.5 inches). External measurement of mount, for framing, is 320 x 405 mm (12.5 x 16 inches).
