Original fine steel engraving by Edward Brandard (1819-1898) from drawing by draughtsman of landscapes and architectural views, John Skinner Prout (1805-1876), for Australia Illustrated, published in London by Virtue and Company Limited circa 1874.

Skinner Prout was born on 19 December 1805 at Plymouth, England. On 14 December 1840 he arrived in Sydney with his wife and seven children. He brought a complete lithographic printing press with him, and in early 1841 he started producing lithographs of his drawings of Sydney. In January 1844 Prout moved to Hobart and commenced drawing Hobart and its environs for lithographs. Skinner Prout assisted to organize, and often accompanied, sketching clubs' trips around New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria. Prout and his family returned to England in April 1848.

This antique print has a few marks above the image. It is as published, uncoloured, with wide margin. Page size is 21 x 27cm (8.1/4 x 10.5/8). Image size is 12 x 19cm (4 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches).
