S.T. Gill Antique Print of the Australian gold-rush town Geelong.

Original steel engraving by James Tingle after the sketch by Samuel Thomas (S.T.) Gill (1818-1880) for Victoria Illustrated published Melbourne circa 1857 (with fine later hand-colour).

At 21, Gill migrated from London to South Australia. He tried his luck at the diggings, but had more success with his character studies of life on the gold-fields. In Victoria ST Gill gained a good reputation for his painting and drawing of colonial life in Australia.

This is a wonderful early view of Geelong. Page size is 20 x 28cm (8 x 11 inches).
