Hand-coloured antique engraving of the first State School in the gold-mining town of Ballarat in Victoria.

Original wood engraving circa 1886 after a sketch by William Crothers Fitler (1857-1915) for Andrew Garran's "Picturesque Atlas of Australasia" published in Sydney between 1886 and 1888 to illustrate the discovery and development of Australia, and to commemorate 100 years of settlement.

The engraving has later hand colour, and is mounted in antique white acid-free archival mattboard, covered with cellophane for protection, ready for framing.

Size of engraving is10 x 15cm (4 x 6 inches). The external measurement of the mounted image is 25 x 30cm (10 x 12 inches).
