Ballarat. Sturt Street Ballarat Victoria Australia Antique Print c1886
by Garran, Andrew
Original wood engraving of an idyllic scene in a graciously proportioned main street of Ballarat, showing a more leisurely pace of life. This engraving was for "Picturesque Atlas of Australasia", published in Sydney between 1886 and 1888 to commemorate 100 years since the first settlement in Australia, and the colony's development since that time.
The engraving would have been published in black ink, and as has been traditional over the centuries when an image has been appreciated, it would have been hand-tinted with watercolour since then. The image is mounted in antique white conservation mattboard and protectively covered by cellophane. If you would prefer to have only the antique print, please let us know: email sales@antiqueprintclub.com
The measurements to the extremity of the image are 18 x 28cm (7 x 11 inches). The external measurement of the mounted image is 33 x 42cm (13 x 16.1/2 inches).
