Olive green cloth hard cover, with gilt and black printing and illustrations of wattle, gum trees, mining camp, and mining scenes. Hinges split, front and back. Part of bookplate inside front cover. Age discolouration throughout as is to be expected. Despite this, it is a good looking copy of this important and rare book.
32cm x 88cm folding chromolithograph of View of Ballaarat, Victoria, Australia, 1887 (with a few expert repairs to the folds); a 37cm x 62cm folded Plan of the Ballarat and Sebastapol Gold Mines, showing the various claims and leases, compiled by Robert Allan Mining Surveyor (slight tear at base at spine); together with 25 other black and white lithographic illustrations, some of which are full page.
This is the best early publication on Ballarat, and a great story of the gold rush and period following
