Kiama, New South Wales. Antique Print, Australia c1886

by Garran, Andrew

Antique print of Kiama south of Sydney, c1886.

Original wood engraving c1886 (with later hand-colour) after a sketch for Andrew Garran's "Picturesque Atlas of Australasia" published in Sydney between 1886 and 1888 to commemorate the 100 years since First Fleet settlement in Australia. Leading topographical artists were commissioned to provide illustrations of the discovery, exploration, settlement and development of Australia and the adjacent Pacific countries. They were some of the finest engravings of the late 19th century, and are a wonderful overview of the region, and life in colonial days.

This engraving is mounted in 'antique white' acidfree archival mattboard and cellophaned for protection, ready for framing. Size of engraving is 13 x 18cm (5 x 7 inches). Actual mounted size is 25 x 30cm (10 x 12 inches).
