Government House, Sydney antique print. Joseph Fowles c1848,

by Fowles, Joseph

Early antique print, Government House flying Union Jack.

Original engraving circa 1848 by W. Harris after a drawing by Joseph Fowles of the grand Sydney Government House built in 1845 on Macquaries Street, adjjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Fowles drew the important streets in the centre of Sydney and named many of the actual buildings and their occupants at that time. they were finely engraved - with the second side of the street usually shown upside down!

This engraving has fine later hand-colour that certainly enhances it.

Page measures 310 x 270mm.
