Very rare original aquatint with contemporary hand-colour published c1826 for the first edition of An Account of the state of agriculture and grazing in New South Wales by James Atkinson (1794-1834), published in London by J. Cross, June 1826.

The picture tells the story... The aborigines have "done them proud" as the saying goes. The 2 chief explorers rest under the bark shelter. Their assistant is standing outside. The indigenous aborigines are resting - as are the horses.

This rare aquatint also was glued over a hundred years ago. The glue damage is evident on the front but is mainly at the page edges, and not intruding over the border, although there is slight soiling that does extend over the border. With the character and strong colour of this aquatint, it is not intrusive. Once again, it is a lovely aquatint and a fascinating piece of history.

Page size is approximately measurement is 140 x 222 mm (5 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches). To border line measures 110 x 195mm (4 1/4 x approx. 7 5/8 inches).
