Gold. The Newly-arrived. Sherer engraving c1853 after Gill lithograph

by Sherer, John

Antique Print with Legal reference to life on the GOLD DIGGINGS in AUSTRALIA.

"There were others more artful, who began at a distance, and came gradually round to their point with the sly fox-like ingenuity of a long-practised examining counsel."

Original wood engraving 'from authentic sketches taken in the colony' (by S.T. Gill) for John Sherer’s “The Gold-Finder of Australia - How he went, How he fared, How he made his fortune” published in London circa 1853. London-based Sherer added a descriptive caption to his engravings from ST Gill's sketches of life on the Australian goldfields.

Engraved page measures 22 x 13cm (8.5 x 5 inches). A group of these early engravings, framed on the wall, makes an interesting historical collection.
