Gold. Bushrangers. The Black Forest. Sherer antique print c1853.
by Sherer, John
Antique Print of the GOLD RUSHES in AUSTRALIA.
"This locality is a noted rendezvous for bushrangers." (with skeletal remains of a dead animal in the foreground, along a well-worn track.)
Original wood engraving by W.A. Nicholls 'from authentic sketches taken in the colony' (by S.T. Gill) for John Sherer’s “The Gold-Finder of Australia - How he went, How he fared, How he made his fortune” published in London circa 1853. London-based Sherer added descriptive captions to each of Gill's scenes of the goldfields.
Engraved page measures 130 x 220 mm (5 x 8.5 inches). A group of these, framed on the wall, makes an interesting (and entertaining) historical collection.
