Australian Gold Rush at Forest Creek, Victoria. Sherer antique print c1853.

by Sherer, John

GOLD DIGGINGS in AUSTRALIA. Australian Goldfields. Forest Creek, Victoria, c1853 - after ST Gill.
"It is a wonderful representation, and must be surveyed as a picture which no other age, since the world began, has exhibited."

Original wood engraving by W.A. Nicholls 'from authentic sketches taken in the colony' (by S.T. Gill) for John Sherer’s “The Gold-Finder of Australia - How he went, How he fared, How he made his fortune” published in London circa 1853. London-based Sherer added descriptive captions below each engraving from ST Gill sketches of the Australian goldfields.

There is a tiny nick out of the top edge of the page. Engraved page measures 13 x22 cm (5 x 8.5 inches).
A group of these, framed on the wall, would be an interesting historical statement.
