A Woman & Child from Van Diemen's Land. A Man of Van Diemen's Land.

Fine small antique print from Captain Cook's voyage when he visited Tasmania. As Commander of Resolution, Captain James Cook (1728-1779) visited Tasmania during his second voyage across the Pacific Ocean in search of a great south land, Terra Australis, at the South Pole. This is one of the fine engravings from drawings made by artists during that voyage.

Original  copperplate engraving by English engraver, Wilson Lowry (1762-1824), for the small edition of the Account of the Voyages of Captain Cook, published in London "as the Act directs" by Alexander Hogg at Kings Arms, No.16, Paternoster Row,  circa 1790 (with later colour).
