Original wood engravings published in London on September 22 1883 for The Graphic. The Graphic periodical was an illustrated weekly newspaper that began production in 1869 to illustrate news from around the world. It became the main competitor for The Illustrated London News. The wood engraved illustrations were of the highest standard of any newspaper, and were often clipped and hand-coloured for further enjoyment - particularly when they were full page size.
