This book illustrates some of the beautiful hand-coloured lithographs of Egypt, Syria and the Holy Land. David Roberts was a skilful and observant topographical illustrator. His many years employment as an artist of theatrical sets, lent a unique perspective to the grand views that he painted during his travels through Europe. His recordings were lithographed (drawn on stone and hand-coloured with watercolour) by David Roberts' friend, talented lithographer, Louis Haghe.

David Roberts lithographs are the finest every done of Egypt and the Holy Land. The spectacular scenes of his travels, were much in demand by Roberts' wealthy subscribers, who craved images of these unfamiliar landscapes. The figures of people are notably smaller than lifesize, to emphasize the grandeur of the scene and the architecture. This is a lovely book about his work.
