Original French hand-coloured pochoir, Le Mignon Petit Soulier c1924, by Jean Grangier for Gazette du Bon Ton, published c1924-1925. Delightful 1920's fashion plate for young ladies and their very precious shoes!

Gazette de Bon Ton was an exclusive periodical issued by Lucien Vogel in Paris around ten times a year between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I when the editor was called up for military service). Gazette du Bon Ton was distributed by Condé Nast who established Vogue magazine. The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France during this period for these publications, and pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with a separate stencil cut for each successive application of pen and watercolour.

As is usual with this period paper, the page is slightly age discoloured. The page size is 240 x 185mm (approx. 9 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches). To border of image measures 180 x 135mm (approx. 7 x 5 1/4 inches).
