Gazette du Bon Ton pochoir c1912, Etes-vous pretRobe d'apres-midi. (Afternoon Dress).

Delightful original pochoir by Étienne Drian for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), published in Paris in 1912. The finest fashion illustrators of the day introduced French designers' latest fashions in charming fashion narratives with appropriate and often humorous captions below. The pochoir illustrations were popular from the first publication, and have been coveted wall decoration ever since.

Gazette de Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), and distributed by Condé Nast. The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and this French word for stencil has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with separate stencils cut for each application of gouache and watercolour by hand.
