Gazette du Bon Ton elegant fashion Croquis XXVIII. White fascinator-style trim to fitted hat, spectacular white frills to crop-jacket with stand-up collar, white blouse, and drop-waisted long straight black skirt - both with mid-blue braid, matching the parasol.

Original hand-coloured pochoir published in Paris c1922 for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), the exclusive publication where specialist fashion illustrators introduced the latest fashion styles of superior Paris designers. Gazette du Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925. Vogel and his distributor, Condé Nast produced Vogue magazine together (with photographic illustrations from 1932.)

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been used worldwide to describe this method of illustrating fashion since it was perfected by the French fashion artists with the Gazette du Bon Ton illustrations. Pochoir is a labour-intensive method of illustration with a separate stencil cut for each successive layer of watercolour that was applied by hand with a variety of tools and well as brushes to achieve a consistency through the whole print run of each edition of the magazine.

This pochoir will qualify as an antique print in 2 years' time. Size of page 24 x 19cm or 9.5 x 7.5 inches.
