Original 1914 fashion pochoir by Andre-Edouard Marty (1882-1974)) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style). Between 1912 and 1925 the finest fashion illustrators introduced the latest styles by prominent French designers in this exclusive periodical. Marty was one of the four regular contributors. His elegant compositions show the latest fashion within elegant and imaginative fashion narratives that usually portrayed underlying humour in each situation.

The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been adopted worldwide ever since to describe the labour-intensive process of cutting a separate stencil for successive applications of watercolour to create the fine detail with clarity and depth of colour.

In fine condition despite the usual slight age-discolouration of the paper. Size of page, 24 x 19cm or 9.5 x 7.5 inches.
