Threaded Ribbons. 1920's Fashion Sketch pochoir. Croquis XXIII c1922.

by Gazette du Bon Ton

Gazette du Bon Ton ladies' fashion, antique print.

Original pochoir published in Paris circa 1922 for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), the exclusive publication that introduced the latest superior fashion styles. The finest illustrators of the day showed fashions by prominent French designers in Gazette du Bon Ton, published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925. The David sisters produced most of the 'Sketches'.

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by cutting a separate stencil for each hand-application of watercolour, using a variety of tools to achieve the detail of the fabric and nuance of colour tone with consistency.
