Serge Galonnée (Braided Serge), Bon Ton Sketch 15.

by Gazette du Bon Ton

Braided Serge on stunning 1920s outfit. Croquis XV.

Original hand-coloured pochoir published in Paris c1922 for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), the exclusive publication that introduced the latest superior fashion styles. These pochoirs have been collected ever since they were first published, and grace many a wall..

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by cutting a separate stencil for each hand-application of watercolour, to build up the depth of colour and nuance of the fashion study. The finest illustrators of the day were employed to produce each individual illustration for Gazette du Bon Ton, which was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I).

(Two more years until this wonderful pochoir qualitfies as an antique print.) Size of page 24 x 19cm or 9.5 x 7.5 inches. Slight age-discolouration as usual to this page, and faint bend in the lower left-hand corner, that would not show when framed. Price adjusted accordingly.
