Lady Golfer with Golf Clubs. Costumes Parisiens c1913
by Taquoy, Maurice
Petit loden Tailleur en laine d'Ecosse. Grosses bottines lacées. Leaving for a golf trip, lady wearing a little tailored skirt in tartan material and heavy laced boots.
Charming small 1913 pochoir fashion study by Maurice Taquoy (1878-1952) for Journal des Dames et des Modes, Costumes Parisiens, a fashion periodical produced by couturier Paul Poiret and published by Tom Antongini from 1912 to 1914. Similar to Gazette du Bon Ton, but even more scarce with a small circulation and short publication period, Journal des Dames et des Modes, Costumes Parisiens (Journal of Ladies and Fashion, Parisian Dress) presented a total of only 186 different pochoir fashion plates.
Specialist fashion artists used an intricate, labour-intensive style of illustration for small hand-coloured pochoir (stencils) of the latest fashion designs. A separate stencil was cut for each application of skilfully applied watercolour.
Page size is 220 x 145mm. Image to border measures 155 x 90mm.
