Original fashion pochoir c1924 by George Barbier (1882-1932) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style). Between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I when the editor and many of the artists were called up for military service), the finest fashion illustrators introduced the latest fashions by prominent French designers. Barbier was one of the four regular contributors for this exclusive periodical. He was most influential in the style of artwork, and his fashion illustrations are most sought after today. George Barbier pochoirs show the latest fashion within charming visual fashion narratives that convey the mood of each style beautifully.

Pochoir fashion illustration was perfected by skilful artists in France at the beginnning of the 20th century. Pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been adopted worldwide to describe the labour-intensive process of cutting many separate stencils for successive applications of watercolour by hand.
