Gazette du Bon Ton "The Sea is Beautiful" Brissaud pochoir

by Brissaud, Pierre

Gazette du Bon Ton: Que c'est beau la mer! (Isn't the sea beautiful!).

Robe de plage de Cheruit. (Dress for the beach by the eminent designer, Cheruit.)

Original Pierre Brissaud pochoir published in Paris in 1913 for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), illustrating the latest superior fashion, worn in an appropriate situation.

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by hand-colouring with gouache and watercolour, through separate stencils for each colour. The finest illustrators of the day showed fashions by prominent French designers in Gazette du Bon Ton, published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925.
