1920s fashion, Gazette du Bon Ton Croquis XII by David who was responsible for most of the sketches showing the fashion, without a background.

Original hand-coloured pochoir published in Paris c1922 for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), the exclusive publication that introduced the latest superior fashion styles. The finest illustrators of the day were employed to produce each individual illustration for Gazette du Bon Ton, which was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I).

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by cutting up to 20 separate stencils for successive applications of watercolour by a variety of tools and brushes, to maintain a consistent quality of detail of the fabrics and depth of colour and nuance of the fashion study.
