Children at zoo. "Let's see the monkeys" Brissaud, Gazette du Bon Ton c1921

by Brissaud, Pierre

Gazette du Bon Ton, Allons voir les Singes (Let's Visit the Monkeys). Tailoring and children's dresses designed by Jeanne Lanvin in 1921.

Original hand-coloured pochoir by Pierre Bssaud (1885-1964) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Gazette of Good Style), published in Paris to illustrate the latest superior fashion circa 1920, worn in an appropriate situation.

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by hand-colouring with gouache and watercolour, through separate stencils for each colour. The finest illustrators of the day showed fashions by prominent French designers in Gazette du Bon Ton, published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (except during World War I).
