Robe de Lingerie, de Doeuillet. Lingerie dress by Georges Doeuillet.

Original A-E. Marty pochoir for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style) published in 1913. André-Edouard Marty (1882-1974) was one of four regular contributors of fine pochoir illustrations for this exclusive periodical. The finest fashion illustrators of the day portrayed the latest fashions by prominent French designers. The charming pochoirs from the Gazette have always been collected, framed and enjoyed.

Gazette de Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925, and distributed by Condé Nast. Distributed in the U.S. as Gazette du Bon Genre, both titles translate roughly as Journal of Good Style. The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with a separate stencil cut for successive hand-application of colour by ink, gouache and watercolour.
