Earlom engraving after drawing by Claude Lorrain c1774. (Bird artist, and helpers with shotguns.)

Richard Earlom sepia-printed engraving after Claude le Lorrain drawing. Richard Earlom (1743-1822) achieved fame with this series of two hundred fine copperplate engravings published in London circa 1776 by John Boydell. Earlom completed these engravings after the drawings begun in 1636 by Claude le Lorrain (1600-1682) for Liber Veritatis.

Claude Lorrain's family name was Gellée. He was born in the region of Lorrain in France (1600-1682) but spent most of his life in Italy, where he was a pupil of Italian artist/engraver, Giovanni Battista Cipriani. His idyllic baroque scenes, whether of landscapes or maritime views are quite stylized and easily recognizable.
