Bacchante classical engraving of maiden teasing child with grapes. In classical mythology, Bacchante is a priestess or female follower of Bacchus, the god of agriculture, wine and fertility.
Second in a group of three: Original stipple engraving circa 1792 by M. Bovi, from a drawing by Lavinia, Countess of Spencer. The engraver Marino Bovi was a pupil of the Italian artist, Francesco Bartolozzi R.A. (1727-1815).
Size to intaglio impression is 22 x 28cm (8.5 x 11 inches), with wide borders. Because of the fragile nature of the paper used for the engraving, it has been laid down (adhered to a stronger archival backing paper).
