Pieces a Personnages Faience. Amphitrite Faience Plate. c1870

by Delaroque/Ris-Paquot

Antique print of 'Amphrite the Entertainer on a dragon' Faience plate.

This beautiful original lithograph of Faience porcelain plate was colour-printed by Ris-Paquot in Amiens and published by Eugene Delaroque circa 1870, for "Histoire des Faiences de Rouen" (History of Rouen Faience) to illustrate the first soft porcelain created in Europe early in the 18th century by Louis Poterat, sieur de Saint-Etienne, a potter of Rouen in France.

This beautiful soft coloured, warm milky white translucent earthenware, was traditionally decorated by foliated patterns and floral designs of French style, or designs in imitation of early Chinese and Japanese porcelain. This one was from the 'Pieces a Personnages' series featuring people.
